Copenhagen is an expensive place to visit, but well worth it. Here are a few ways to stretch your dollars on accommodation.
Stay in a Youth Hostel
This is especially good advice for solo travelers. With dorm beds ranging from $30 -$60 a night, even those who feel well beyond hostel years should give it strong consideration.
Plan in Advance
One of the best ways to save money on lodging is to plan in advance. Procrastinate for an extra week or two, and you’ll pay double for the same dorm bed.
Try Couch Surfing
Couch surfing is a worldwide community of hosts accepting guests into their homes for free. It is meant to be a cultural exchange, so expect to spend some time with your hosts. Stays of one or two nights are best. Visit couchsurfing.comĀ for more details.
Stay in Vesterboro
Copenhagen’s Vesterboro neighborhood is located just outside the central train station. It offers reasonably priced hotels with one caveat. Late into the evening the neighborhood is thick with prostitutes. While this doesn’t seem to have much effect on the extreme safety of the area, it is very disconcerting and can get very noisy.
Check Out Package Deals
Flight and hotel packages are a great way to save for those who have a specific date and time frame in mind for visiting the city.

“Couch surfing” is a new one on me because I used to know the people I was “couch surfing” with.
It’s was new to me too, but it’s a great community of travelers.
