When traveling, everything you pack has to do double or triple duty. And that’s the trouble I find with most sites about travel shoes – the recommendations all seem to fit only one or two specific needs. They are either comfortable, cute, or lightweight, but rarely all three.
This post is where I’m collecting all the triple threats I find on my six month trip around the globe. So far I’ve only found two, but with five months and 27 days to go, I’m sure I’ll ferret out a few more.
These shoes are designed for the rubble and splash of the Spartan races. One of their best features is their weight, which is no more than a heavy-gauge pair of flip flops.
A waxy coating keeps feet dry, and an “H2O drain” expels whatever water does get in from a big puddle jump. Because they are constructed of fast drying materials, you won’t have to drag along soggy, leaden sneaks.
My favorite feature of this shoe is the huge, cleat-like treads. They are great grips for hiking and are strategically placed on pressure points so you can use them for an early morning jog.
I’ve been wearing mine almost everyday for nearly a month and I love them. And, at $75-$120, the price is just right for this versatile and stylish shoe. My only upgrade wish is a more Nike-esque shapely design.
Maybe other backpackers would shun a boot in their bag, but I need to tote some fashion and sass. Year after year, I’m obsessed with the Born brand boot collection. They always strike the perfect balance between bombshell and butt-kicker. The price point can be pretty high at $150-$200, but I’ve been wearing mine for four years with only minor repairs.
These babies are practically weightless. I’ve sprayed mine with waterproofing and they make a nice clicking sound when I walk. I have climbed fences, run blocks, and danced tango in these boots. I receive compliments on them regularly and I’m still in love after all these years. Now I only wish Born would apply this same savvy to their sandals, which, I’m sorry to say, are not cute at all.
If you’ve got a pair of multi-tasking travel shoes, please share the name and features here. I’ll suss them out and add them to the list of they pass muster.
